Get to Know Mobi Mansions

Mobi Mansions (previously known as Tui Tiny Homes) was started in November 2018 by entrepreneur Lloyd Darroch. Their first few homes were built before Covid stalled operations temporarily. As a result of so many kiwis returning to New Zealand after Covid and the continues influx of immigrants to our peaceful shores, the housing demand and demand for lucrative rentals saw sales sore.

Lloyd in earlier times was the founder of the highly successful Aakronite synthetic stone bathroom products business. After it was sold in 1981 he ventured into farming and built up the largest dairy goat herd in NZ at the time.

When the market for goat milk powder collapsed he quickly set up the Puhoi Valley Cheese Co. and within a few years it became the biggest producer of specialty cheeses in the country. After that was sold in 2000 he imported luxury yachts from Taiwan before establishing Aakron Marine Ltd in 2005 to import Inflatable boats and trailers from China.

Seeing a demand for large trailers to carry tiny homes a division was set up in 2017 to cater for that need. From contacts established in the tiny home market he soon realised that most builders were stuck with old fashioned methods and materials that were heavy, cramped and frequently poorly insulated, which got him thinking how to do it better. As he told anyone who would listen ‘you need to think like an aircraft engineer, not a bricklayer’

By using clever engineering and space age materials Mobi Mansions today utilises slide-out technology and the best insulation in NZ to create warm homes that enjoy more spacious ground level living areas than any other tiny home company in NZ.

Importantly, at prices that no-one else can match.

Annelie Mulder joined the company in 2023, initially on the marketing side. Her prior experience and skills in project management, interior design, sales and marketing has been invaluable to the company.  Lloyd and Annelie, along with a dedicated team of skillful craftsmen and contractors are very proud of the spacious, superior insulated, one-level homes they design and build for their clients.

The unique slide-out system and super light, but incredibly strong building material, has brought their homes to the attention of buyers across Australasia and with this expansion, a name change was appropriate. As of 3 June 2025 Tui Tiny Homes was renamed Mobi Mansions.  Mobi Mansions explains their product far better and outside New Zealand very few people know what a tui is.

"We are passionate about quality and innovation"

What Makes us Unique?

Mobi Mansions, previously Tui Tiny Homes Ltd is an innovative company with a clever concept that enables all our homes, but specifically even our larger two-bedroom homes, to be transported on it’s own road-legal trailer. A large portion of the tiny home (the ‘slide-out’) can be quickly repositioned, by a single person, inside the main body of the home, making it really easy to move. Once the home has been moved to a new location, the slide-out is quickly returned to its extended position and the tiny home is ready to be re-occupied. Then mobile decks are positioned and the tiny home is ready to be re-occupied. To see our slide-out/in technology, watch the video below.

Why invite problems if you can be legal?

Mobi Mansions adhere to Land Transport New Zealand’s regulations for “a load on a light trailer” which means you DO NOT require a Building Consent because our homes are legally “a vehicle”, NOT “a building” in the current Building Act. Building a structure strong enough to be driven at 80 – 90 km/hr, as our homes are, requires far superior building methods and materials than something built to stay in one place.
